Pharmacometrics is the science of developing and applying mathematical and statistical methods to (a) characterize, understand, and predict a drug’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic behavior; (b) quantify uncertainty of information about that behavior; and (c) rationalize data-driven decision making in the drug development process and pharmacotherapy. Here, our aim is to provide the tools and knowledge about this science and its applications.

This is a pioneer course in Latin America in the second version and it is a landmark example of collaboration between the University of Antioquia Medical School and the Laboratory of Applied Pharmacokinetics and Bioinformatics of the University of Southern California. Level of the course: Medium Sponsors: Sistema General de Regalias (BPIN: 2013000100183), Ruta N, Universidad de Antioquia and Laboratory of Applied Pharmacokinetics and Bioinformatics at USC. Cost: $600 USD per person. Up to six persons will be covered by the sponsors, previous registration with the organizers. This cost include coffee, lunch and certificate of attendance.

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to: 1. Define PK structural models that can be solved analytically and models that require differential equation solvers. 2. Create PK datasets appropriate for population analysis 3. Fit data to models to estimate population and individual distributions of parameter values 4. Make and customize pharmacometric plots, including but not limited to model parameter joint densities, model diagnostics, and individual or population observations and predictions 5. Understand how pharmacometric models can be used for personalized medicine
